I WALKED IN PARTS FROM GRONINGEN TO DELFZIJL
I am currently working in an Azc in Delfzijl. The people who live here do not experience the freedom that I have felt for 24 years. In the AZC I met Adnan, Adnan fled from Syria. I want to show that all the people between me and the AZC are connected. And that all these people are also connected to Adnan and the other young adults in the AZC. I get to know and look at everyone there. In this way I can show myself, and other young adults around me, that we should not only take care of ourselves and the people around us. But also for the people we sometimes cannot see, but who are there.
Eye contact creates connection, let yourself be looked at by all the people and look back at the people: And become part of the line.
"THE GAME"
"We could not cross the border because there was a difficult tightening, brutal treatment of refugees, extreme cold and temperatures dropping below zero. Despair, disappointment and loss of hope appeared on our faces, fatigue, exhaustion, and psychological pressures that tore us apart. We did not have water or food left with us, as we took the leaves of trees as food, and from the water of swamps as a drink, and from the earth as a bed, and from the trees as a fire to feel warm. On the borders, under the countries’ game, the game of cat and mouse. The mouse wants to escape to its shelter, and the cat is waiting to catch the mouse. Here the refugees are hoping to invade the borders to reach Europe, a haven of safety and a warm embrace."
